This is a long e-mail. Take the time to read through it and even save it or print it out so you can stay informed over the break.

Remember that what we get accomplished over the break can go a long way toward making us more successful in February and March. Be working on those D-X and C-X detailed outlines. Be reading over witness statements and exhibits that apply to your witness(es).

American Mock Trial Invitational
May 17-19, 2009

Students from the BJA mock trial teams traveled to New Jersey in May 2009 to compete in the American Mock Trial Invitational. The team was undefeated in competetion, but their total point score resulted in a third-place finish. Congratulations on a job well done!

HSMT Nationals - May 6-10, 2009


Below is a summary of the 2009 National High School Mock Trial Championship taken from http://www.nationalmocktrial.org


2009 National Champion

John Adams High School South Bend, Indiana won the national title by defeating Lakeville North High School from Lakeville, Minnesota.

Congratulations to Guam, South Korea, the Commonwealth of Northern Marianna Islands, and all 39 state champions who competed.

Atlanta, Georgia, hosted the 26th Annual
National High School Mock Trial Championship
May 6 through May 10, 2009.

The 2009 competition was held at the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta May 6-10, 2009. High school students from 42 states, U.S. territories, and South Korea participated in this two-day national competition. This is the second time Georgia has been selected to host nationals, the first time occurring in 1993.

Fort Mill High wins state mock trial competition; Bob Jones Academy places second

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 16, 2009) -- Fort Mill High School students placed first among 11 other S.C. high schools who competed in the state mock trial competition March 13-14 at the Matthew J. Perry Jr. Federal Courthouse in Columbia. The team will advance to the national competition May 7-10 in Atlanta, GA.

Participating students were Darius Becker, Josh Bradley, Ryan Corby, Justin Duke, Heather Griffin, Maddison Hall, James Hughes, Sunshine Isner, Rowena Jones, Kristy Klixbull, Nathan Koverman, Gabriela Lanza, Chase Lovins, Veronica Martinez, Tasha Sanders, Mattson Taylor Smith and Kaylee Wagner. Attorney coaches were Walter Dusky, Harold Staley, Stephen Corby and Erin Fitzpatrick. Teacher coaches were Lynn Dickinson, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Beth Spratt and Tom Wood.

Bob Jones Academy placed second. Participating students were Annie Churdar, David Freeman, Brendan Kelley, Jon Ludwig, Valerie Myers, Jackie Olinger and Stephen Vogt. Attorney coach was Allen Fretwell. Teacher coaches were Michael Murphy and Jennifer Olinger.


Other teams competing at the state competition were as follows: Blythewood High School, Chapin High School, Daniel High School, Dutch Fork High School, Fort Dorchester High School, Johnsonville High School, North Myrtle Beach High School, Strom Thurmond High School, Wade Hampton High School and Wando High School.

Mock Trial Piedmont Regional - February 28, 2009

Photos below were taken at the 2009 SC Mock Trial Regional Competition at the Greenville County Courthouse on Saturday, February 28.

The BJA varsity team won one of four bids from the Piedmont region to the State Championships to be held in Columbia on Friday and Saturday, March 13 & 14.
